A Course in Miracles is a complete self-study spiritual thought system. As a three-volume curriculum consisting of a Text, Workbook for Students, and Manual for Teachers, it teaches that the way to universal love and peace—or remembering God—is by undoing guilt through forgiving others.

The Course thus focuses on the healing of relationships and making them holy. A Course in Miracles also emphasizes that it is one version of the universal curriculum, of which there are “many thousands.” Consequently, even though the language of the Course is that of traditional Christianity, it is a universal spiritual teaching.

In this class you will:

1. Become familiar with main themes taught in A Course in Miracles.

2. Apply the teachings of A Course in Miracles to the everyday circumstances that arise in your daily life.

3. Practice the first forty-two lessons of A Course in Miracles Workbook for Students.

Course Duration: 6 weeks

Homework begins: October 14, 2024

Last Day of Course: November 24, 2024

Coursework: There will be buddy peer review of homework 2 times per week.  There is homework 7 days per week.

Ramana Maharshi was born on December 30, 1879 in a village in Tamil, India. His father died when he was twelve, and he went to live with his uncle. At age 16, he experienced a sudden and extreme fear of death to which he responded by immediately seeking the truth of the Self and became Self-realized. Six weeks later he followed an inner calling and ran away to India’s holy hill, Arunachala, where he remained for the rest of his life. For years he was a silent ascetic. He spent many hours each day deep in samadhi. Years later he emerged from silence to share the wisdom of the True Self with those who came seeking it. Before the end of his life in 1950, thousands of people had come to him from all over the world. Ramana Maharshi became known as one of the greatest saints to have ever graced this planet with Presence.

Join us as we contemplate the teachings of this great sage. We will also read stories about about him told by the people who knew him best.

In this course you will:

  1. Consider the legend, the living example and the teachings of a great sage and determine what is most helpful to one’s own spiritual process.
  2. Practice self-inquiry in order to distinguish between what is and is not the Self.
  3. Practice removing attention from the non-Self and placing it with the Self using a spiritual practice that is most suited for you now.

Purpose:The purpose of this course is to introduce the participant to the spiritual teaching of one of the great sages of the twentieth century, Ramana Maharshi.

Course Duration: 6 weeks

Course Starting Dates: July 15, 2024

To the degree that you are unaware of ego, you are a slave to ego. It speaks in your mind as you, and you think it is you, so you talk, feel and act based on its deception. The way to become free of ego is, first and foremost, to become aware of its cunning messages.

In this retreat, you will learn to see how the ego tricks you into living from its guidance instead of from spiritual intuition. When you leave this retreat, you will see the ego more clearly than you did before. That will provide you with the opportunity to disregard ego, which is how you free yourself from it.

This retreat is led by Anne Blanchard & Kate Brennan. The retreat will emphasize skills that help you transcend ego and recognize inner wisdom as the Voice that makes you happy.

Rev. Jacquelyn Eckert: Embracing the Role of Spiritual Curriculum Director

We warmly congratulate Rev. Jacquelyn Eckert as she steps into the role of Spiritual Curriculum Director and out of the role of President-Minister. Jacquelyn will be continuing the insightful curriculum development of Rev. Regina Dawn Akers.

In her new role, Jacquelyn will focus on:

  • Workshop and Retreat Development: Crafting enriching programs tailored for individuals at different stages of their spiritual paths, incorporating a variety of practices and teachings. She will create supplementary materials to deepen participants’ understanding and practice of workshop themes.
  • Curriculum Management for Minister Preparation Program (MPP): Jacquelyn will maintain, update, and innovate the MPP curriculum, ensuring our offerings remain deeply impactful.
  • Program Facilitation: She will continue to lead workshops and retreats guiding participants through retreats and curriculums of self-discovery and introspection.
  • Community Building: She will continue to strengthen our community bonds, fostering open communication and mutual support among participants.
  • Collaborative Ventures: Expect collaborations with diverse speakers, teachers, and practitioners, bringing fresh perspectives to our programs. Jacquelyn will also work closely with the Founding Minister and other experts on various publishing projects.

Rev. Rhoda Makled: Stepping into the Role of President-Minister

We are equally excited to announce Rev. Rhoda Makled as the new President-Minister of Awakening Together. Rhoda’s dedication and leadership promise to continue to uphold the mission, purpose and core values of our community. As the President-Minister Rhoda will be responsible for shepherding the financial resources of the organization as well as overseeing the day-to-day operations of all of Awakening Together in accordance with the constitution, by-laws, policies and procedures.

Contrary to popular belief, yoga is not about the body. The word means “to join.” And while we try to join with the body, it is only in mind we join. To join is to heal, which makes yoga a gentle process of undoing the blockages and barriers to the awareness of Love’s Presence, our natural inheritance. In this fun, uplifting 4 day weekend of movement and conversation in La Veta, CO – where Avita Yoga got its name! – we’ll use the body in gentle, doable shapes to unwind patterns of tension, fear, and regret to get to the roots of our undoing so we can heal, join, and claim our Divinity.

Jeff has been a student of A Course In Miracles since 1990. One of its principle messages corresponds perfectly with The Yoga Sutras: to identify and resolve the obstacles to peace and lasting freedom. His consistent dedication to our shared, eternal truth has inspired Avita as a unique and healing approach to yoga. Jeff has found that yoga can heal almost anything with a reflective, self-forgiving approach. 

Jeff is the founder of Avita Yoga. He has a long and diverse yoga background that began in 1985 in Gunnison, CO. The son of a rural veterinarian, Jeff developed an early appreciation for anatomy and physiology, both of which form a basis for the practical nature of a yoga practice. He can reduce the complexities of the body and mind to simple, understandable terms and works with people of all ages to relieve chronic pain and bring more joy to life.

The retreat will begin on Thursday at 9am and end by 4pm on Sunday. You are invited to arrive for dinner on Wednesday. The last meal of the retreat will be breakfast on Monday morning.
