The Sangha is the New Guru
Monday – Thursday~ May 20-23
With Regina Dawn Akers at the Awakening Together Retreat House in La Veta, CO
It has been said that more than 50% of the members of an effective sangha are likely to awaken. The Sanskrit word, “sangha,” literally means community. Specifically, it refers to a community that is dedicated to spiritual awakening. The primary qualities of sangha are: Members genuinely live the spiritual teachings they study; they speak and teach from their own authentic experience; they support one another on the spiritual path. Awakening Together was designed by inner guidance to be a sangha rather than a guru-centered collective. At this retreat, you will learn how the sangha is its own teacher, and you will hone the skills that are important for each member of a highly effective sangha. Come, and learn how to genuinely support awakening, both for you and for your friends.

Today, we will have a leisurely visit to the healing waters of
Chimayo, a little adobe church in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in northern New Mexico, is one of the most visited holy sites in America. It’s known for its holy dirt that’s said to have healing properties. Chimayo’s fame spread to the larger world around the year 1810, when, according to legend, a local friar saw a light springing from one of the hills near the Santa Cruz River. After following it to its source, he found in the earth a crucifix bearing a dark-skinned Jesus. The local villagers paid homage to the relic and then took it to a church in nearby Santa Cruz. Mysteriously, during the night the crucifix returned to its original location. After this happened two more times, the locals built a small chapel to house the crucifix in Chimayo.

This retreat is led by Anne Blanchard & Kate Brennan. The retreat will emphasize skills that help you transcend ego and recognize inner wisdom as the Voice that makes you happy.

There are so many myths about awakening and what it is to live an awakened life that we may not know what living in the awakened way looks like. In this retreat, we will explore deeply what awakening is (and what it isn’t) and how it manifests in and as our lives. We will practice meeting emotions, triggers and challenges as the awakened being would and combine this with deep meditation, self-inquiry and satsang together. First
