To all Awakening Together members:

It is time for Awakening Together’s second annual election! This summer we will elect three new members to the Member Board of Trustees.

What is the Member Board of Trustees?

The Member Board of Trustees is the leadership team that works with the President-Minister and Vice President-Minister to manage Awakening Together. They are responsible for all aspects of leadership including drafting policies and procedures, leading subcommittees, addressing issues and more. The Member Board of Trustees currently meets via Google+ on the first and third Monday of each month from 7:30-9pm ET. You can find out what they discuss and decide at these meetings by perusing their meeting minutes.

Who can be nominated to the Board of Trustees?

Our constitution requires someone to be a charter member of Awakening Together or a member for 2 years in order to serve on the Board of Trustees. Since Awakening Together is not 2 years old yet, that means only charter members are eligible to be nominated for this election. Charter members are people who joined Awakening Together in the first three months.

How do I nominate someone for the Board of Trustees?

You may nominate yourself or someone else to the Member Board of Trustees as long as the nominee is on the list of charter members. If you are nominating someone else, it is a good idea to get his/her permission first.

To nominate a person, send an email to [email protected] .

All nominations received by June 8 will be put on the nominee list. However the earlier a nomination is received the greater the nominee’s chance of making it to the ballot.

Are all nominees put on the ballot?

No. In order for a nominee to be placed on the ballot, 10% of the membership must support the nomination. If there aren’t enough nominees who receive support from 10% of the membership, the Member Board of Trustees will select nominees for the ballot.

How does a nominee get support from the membership?

Each nominee will be listed under the Members menu on the Awakening Together website.

Members are encouraged to visit that link regularly between May 25 and June 8. When you see a nominee that you want to support, send an email to [email protected] stating that you want to support that person’s nomination.

How many people can I nominate or support?

Each member may nominate or support up to three nominees since there are three seats available to be filled on the Member Board of Trustees. (For example, if you nominate one person you can support two others. Or if you nominate two people, you can support one additional person. You have a total of three voting credits to use in the nomination/support process.)

How are nominees elected to the Member Board of Trustees?

Each nominee that receives support from 10% of the membership or from the Member Board of Trustees will be placed on the ballot if he/she accepts the nomination. The ballot will be sent to all members via email on June 20. You will have until July 6 to place your vote. The three nominees receiving the most votes during the ballot process will be elected to the Member Board of Trustees.

How can I get to know the nominees before I vote?

Each nominee who accepts the nomination will be asked to provide a photo and biography. These will be sent to all members during the ballot election process.

Hello Dear Members,

As you may know, many of us are in New York City at the CMC A Course in Miracles Conference. Since so many of our members and ministers are gathered together this Sunday morning in church service with our sister church, Community Miracles Center (CMC), our Awakening Together weekly gathering is going to be a little different. Instead of a live service as usual, Licensed Minster Barbara Deurwaarder will play an audio recovering of a gathering from last year, April 27, 2014. The gathering was lead by Reverend Regina Dawn Akers. The name of the gathering is “The Living Guru.”

So, if you are not in New York City attending church with CMC and all of the others gathered there, please come to the Sanctuary at 10:15am ET as usual and enjoy hearing a powerful spiritual message again.

Once or twice per year Awakening Together offers the opportunity to take True Discernment, an 11-week class that significantly enhances the clarity of those who take it. Now is the opportunity to register, because class begins this coming Saturday!

True Discernment will be offered in Google+ with Nyki Dobson and Jacquelyn Eckert beginning on Saturday, April 18 and running through Saturday, June 27. Class time is from 10am to noon Eastern Time.

The purpose of True Discernment is to help participants become absolutely clear on a number of points including:

• How ideas about self can hinder and help during the awakening process.
• How giving meaning produces both time and the sense of self.
• The usefulness of the following tools: journaling, contemplation, and spiritual aspirations.
• Inquiry practices that are helpful on the path of awakening.
• How those inquiry practices expose false beliefs.
• A primary obstacle that can block the helpfulness of inquiry.
• The difference between dishonest and proper use of denial.
• Blocks to absolute love, natural compassion and guiding intuition.
• How to practice forgiveness, hear/intuit inner wisdom and allow the miracle of grace.
• The difference between analysis and inquiry, between beliefs and truth, and between purification and repression.

You are invited to participate in the upcoming case, Understanding Purification. This class uses the book The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer.

Many people have read this book and loved it. In the Understanding Purification course, you will live The Untethered Soul by following simple, yet profound practice instructions given in a daily workbook written by Awakening Together as a companion to The Untethered Soul. You will also meet weekly with classmates and a facilitator to look at the introspective work that was accomplished during the week and go even deeper into your insights.

This class is 4 weeks long. There are two class times to choose from:

The First Class – Introduction to MPP

The first class is a free 2-hour class called Introduction to the Minister Preparation Program. It is a required class for anyone who wants to be a minister. We recommend the class for everyone who wants to take the program even if they think they aren’t interested in ordination. Some people change their mind after taking this class. You will learn all about the MPP Program including costs and requirements in this 2-hour Introduction class.

MPP Phase I, True Discernment

After the Introduction to MPP class, you will be able to register for True Discernment. True Discernment is an eleven-week course. It will begin on Saturday, April 18. This class will also be scheduled from 10am-noon ET. The course will run through Saturday, June 27.

MPP Phase II

After you complete True Discernment, you can begin taking Phase II courses in any order. Phase II courses will be offered at three different times, and you will be able to take the class that best suits your schedule:

~ Tuesday evenings from 7:30-9:30 ET
~ Wednesday mornings from 10am-noon ET
~ Wednesday evenings, most likely from 7-9pm Pacific Time

How long does it take to complete MPP?

Most participants complete MPP in two years. However, you can take MPP at your own pace and may take up to five years to complete all of the requirements. Awakening Together is offering two Tao Te Ching classes, one on Tuesday evenings and one on Wednesday mornings. According to tradition, the Tao Te Ching was written around 6th century BC by Lao Tzu. The earliest manuscripts found are from the 4th century BC. This makes it one of the world’s most ancient written spiritual works.

Tao literally means the “way”. Te means “divine power.” Ching means “great book.” So the Tao Te Ching is a great book about the way of divine power.

Registration for Awakening Together’s Tao Te Ching class closes after March 10. There are two classes available for registration. You may take this 4-week class with Jacquelyn Eckert on Tuesday evenings from 7:30-9:30pm ET or you may take it with Nyki Dobson on Wednesday mornings from 10am-noon ET. The cost of the class is $80.
