Just watching the trailer of this movie sent shivers up my spine! How familiar this voice has been to all of us. Now is the only time to proclaim, the gig is up.

This Month's Movie: " The Map of Tiny Perfect Things"

Join us for this month's movie discussion group on Sunday, August 28th, 2022 at 8 pm ET/ 6pm MT. All are welcome to come and share the inspiration and spiritual insights received after watching the movie, The Map of Tiny Perfect Things. Jacquelyn Eckert will be the facilitator for this discussion group.

The Map Of Tiny Perfect Things surprisingly goes beyond a typical romance or sci-fi film. It operates on many things that are beyond both genres. The sci-fi element is just used to enhance the narrative and to prove a particular point. I believe that is the beauty of the film. Yes, it does talk about the temporal anomaly and a boy falling for a girl. These topics have been heard a million times before. But these notions are only used as a ladder to find the final destination. The final destination or the goal is about getting privy to a human instinct. A very basic one indeed. We don’t wanna let go. Human beings are not very receptive to transitions. We consider it as a hurdle. We don’t want to let go of people. It’s about facing the eternal truth i.e death. That’s our greatest fear but can also be our greatest driving force. It’s about accepting this eternal truth.

This Month's Movie: "The Starling"

Join us for this month's movie discussion group on Sunday, September 25th, 2022 at 8 pm ET/ 6 pm MT. All are welcome to come and share spiritual insights and thoughts after watching, The Starling. Rev. Kelly Barber will be the facilitator for this discussion group.

THE STARLING follows the grief of two parents, Lilly and Jack Maynard, after their daughter’s death to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Lilly works at the local grocery store, while Jack lives at a rehab facility after a suicide attempt following their daughter’s death. Back at home, Lilly meets with a vet, who used to be a therapist for grief guidance but also answers pet care questions. Lily has an aggressive starling bird that keeps hurting her on her property. Eventually, Jack and Lilly must assess their lives and decide how to move forward.

THE STARLING will be hard for parents to watch, because it deals with the loss of a child. However, it beautifully honors the grieving process and shows good overcoming hardship. THE STARLING has a strong Christian, moral worldview. Pastoral care and church are seen as good things, especially in the light of loss. Positively too, Scripture is read on TV, and the movie stresses themes of friendship, taking care of others and animals, and reconciliation.

A contemporary fairy tale revolving around the most unlikely of friendships between a reclusive, agoraphobic young woman with dreams of being a children’s book author and a curmudgeonly old widower. Bella Brown is a beautifully quirky young woman who dreams of writing and illustrating a successful children’s book. Despite her abandonment as a child, the all consuming OCD, the unfulfilled dream, her awful boss at the library and her paralyzing fear of flora and fauna, Bella is down but not out. She has a spark, an edge, a talent and a voice that we can feel from the get go. This girl has a preternatural survival instinct, having been found in Hyde Park in the middle of winter as a baby. When Bella is forced by her landlord to deal with her neglected garden or face eviction, she meets her nemesis, match and mentor in Alfie Stephenson, a cantankerous, loveless, rich old man who lives next door, and is an amazing horticulturalist.

This Month's Movie: "To The Wonder"

All are welcome to engage and share their experience and insights from watching this month's feature movie, To The Wonder. We will gather together in the Sanctuary on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at 8pm ET/6pm MT. This month's discussion will be led by Rev. Jacquelyn Eckert. This movie can be found on Hulu, YouTube, Amazon Prime, Vudu and ITunes.

To the Wonder feels like Terrence Malick’s slightest, most personal film, being as it is the story of a couple negotiating the passions and whims of their relationship. Yet, this being Malick, it’s actually so much more, as the couple’s search for lasting love becomes an obvious metaphor for the pursuit of relationship with God.
