Heart Explorations: Embracing the Whole Show ~ 05-14-24

During our time together, we will explore what it takes to live from an open, undefended heart.  Naturally, any true exploration of living from the heart necessarily entails taking a deep and sustained look at what prevents us from keeping our hearts open.  Grounded in the knowledge that the essence of us, our true nature, is the very lovingness within us all, we will explore how to recognize and release egoic energies by cultivating open-hearted awareness practices which support us in directly experiencing our true Self.  By leaning into willingness, steeped in self-honesty, and with a consistent dash of courage, we endeavor to open to whatever life brings, as it brings it, that is, on life’s terms.  In so doing, we trust that everything – absolutely everything – is here for us to use for healing, for purification, and for learning to live from the heart.  We look forward to supporting each other in our individual explorations of how we truly embrace the entirety of this show we call life.

Over the centuries, scores of people have flocked to ashrams and monasteries making them their home in order to pursue spiritual awakening. However, the average westerner today doesn’t seem to have that option. We have families, jobs, and other commitments, which keep us living as “householders” in a modern world.

At this retreat, you will learn skills that will help you to awaken right where you are—at home!  Sharpen meditation, contemplation, inquiry, journaling and mind-watching skills in this ‘less talk, more practice’ retreat facilitated by Cyndi Krupp.

Retreat Schedule

The retreat will begin at 10am ET (8am MT) and end at 5pm ET (3pm MT) each day. A 2-hour lunch period will be provided beginning around 1pm ET (11am MT).

Retreat Fee is $300
$50 non-refundable deposit is required

Rev. Michele Hojnacki guides a group of committed students through year 2 of Gentle Healing who want to make consistent, gentle progress toward genuine peace, joy, and love. This group meets weekly on Mondays at 5-7 pm ET/3-5 pm MT and all members are committed to specific assignments and practices between group meetings.

Sounds of Awakening ~ May 12, 2024

Rev. Yolanda interviewed Doreen Younglove who is a vocalist, songwriter, recording artist and vocal/ performance coach. Doreen has recorded lead and backing vocals with many artists in LA and NYC, with most of her success happening in her spiritually themed House/Dance music. Doreen’s underground dance hit “When You’re in Love” was placed on DJ Danny Krivit’s album, Music is My Sanctuary. Currently, Doreen is the Assistant Music Coordinator for Bearded Lady Productions where she performs with Rev. Yolanda at Church with a 2 Drink Minimum and other spiritual gatherings, as well as being the glue that holds the team together for The Alien Love Child Musical where she co-stars as “The Angel”.

Rev. Yolanda is a trans femme gender queer singer/songwriter/performance artist & interfaith minister, originally from Muscle Shoals, Alabama- The Hit Recording Capital of the World. Rev. Yolanda has been making music/theater/TV/film/performance art for well over 40 years, winning the NYC MAC Award twice and inducted into both the NY Blues Hall of Fame and The GLBT Hall of Fame. Rev. Yolanda is so very happy to be a part of and be of service to the Awakening-Together Community on The Member Board of Trustees, as well as with her weekly program The Mighty Companions-The Voice that Likes You.

May Satsang with Dan Wetzel

Please join Dan Wetzel who will be joining us for our May Satsang. This special event will take place on Sunday, May 19th, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. ET / 5:30 p.m. MT in our Zoom sanctuary. Dan will be interviewed by Rev. Anne Blanchard live from the Retreat House.

Here is some information about Dan Wetzel:

I was raised in a family of devout Catholics where I felt a deep connection with Jesus. After High School, I joined a Catholic order of priests with the intention of becoming one myself. However, after completing four years of college, I decided to leave the church as I did not feel that I was getting all the answers that I sought.

In 1977, I Came Upon A Course in Miracles. I felt that I had found my path. The Course made sense to me. I studied, applied and taught the Course for the next 40 years.

Compelled to go deeper in 2017, I left my long time marriage and joined the Living Miracles community in Chapala Mexico, where I stayed for a year and a half. When I felt complete there, I moved to Namaste in Ajijic Mexico, and over a year later moved again to Villa Del Angel as I felt Guided by Spirit.

During my time in Mexico, I learned of Awakening Together and the teachings of Regina Dawn Akers. I was ready and willing to take the next step which was profound. Clarity ensued and self inquiry assisted in the deepening understanding of any beliefs that I held about myself and seeming separation from God.

I continue to learn that my awakening is a gradual revelation that the awareness had always been present, but was mixed with emotions, sensations and thoughts and experienced as the personal self called Dan. Stillness and peace increase daily with meditation and contemplation.

Presently, I reside near Mighty Companions with whom I join frequently for support and prayer and the inward journey back to the One Self. I trust that the universe is conspiring to do me good. Allowing everything without judgment, to accept “what is”, is Holy Spirit’s (Inner Wisdom) purpose for the dream world of duality, replacing the ego’s purpose of separation. Accepting that only Oneness is real is the Atonement, the end of the dream of separation, life and death, and is the experience of the Happiness that We are.

Enlightened Leadership, Tao Te Ching ~ Deeper into Ch. 34 “Treatise on Greatness” 05-12-24

Awakening Together’s Vice President-Minister, Rev. Rhoda Makled, and Rev. David Hemphill share from the Tao as they contemplate its principles in order to fully embody them.

The Tao Te Ching (The Way), written by Lao-Tzu (Old Teacher), is a guide to enlightened leadership. While most people believe effective leadership lies in knowledge and power, the Tao teaches it lies in emptiness, stillness, and presence.

The pair are using three books including interpretations by Derek Lin, Wayne Wang, and Stephen Mitchell. And now they are excited to add Regina’s translation to their contemplations of the Tao and you are invited to join them each Sunday.

Contemplating Poetry Using Lectio Divina with Rev. Susan Telford ~ 05-12-24

Rev. Susan Telford guides us in learning the contemplative practice of Lectio Divina using poetry.

In each session, Rev. Susan reads a poem, drawing from a wide range of poets, including Rumi, Hafiz, David Whyte, Mary Oliver, John O’Donohue, and many others (including her own work), then guides participants through the four steps of Lectio Divina.

Susan shares that this direct practice is a beautiful way to connect with Inner Wisdom and obtain clarity.

*This was a special edition program in honor of our dear Rev. Glenn Ganaway. Glen was a regular attendee for the Lectio sessions and his spouse, Rev. Yolanda Mapes shared three of Glen’s favorite Rumi poems which were contemplated during this program.

REMINDER ~ Sanctuary Closings ~ May 19-25, 2024

The Awakening Together Sanctuary will be closed May 20-25, 2024. The Awakening Together staff along with a few presenters will be on retreat for “Sangha is the New Guru” in LaVeta.

The Sanctuary will be partially open Sunday, May 19th as follows:

  1. 10:00 a.m. ET – 8:00 a.m. MT for the Weekly Gathering & Fellowship Time.
  2. After that, the Sanctuary will close until 7:30 p.m. ET when we will re-open for the Monthly Satsang.
  3. All other programs in between will be canceled on Sunday, May 19.

Most regularly scheduled programs for the week of May 19-25 will be canceled. Please be sure to check the Awakening Together calendar if you have any questions about a particular program you participate in, including Gentle Healing.

Regular Sanctuary programming will resume on Sunday, May 26th. We look forward to being in the sanctuary with you then!

Introducing this Month’s Movie: “August Rush”

Join us for our next Movie Watcher’s Group which will be facilitated by Laura Joy Bedford on Sunday, May 26th, 2024, at 8 pm ET/6 pm MT.

August Rush is a 2007 American musical drama. 11 year old Evan (played by Freddie Highmore) is a 10-year-old musical prodigy living in an orphanage who runs away to New York City. He begins to unravel the mystery of how he came to be an orphan as he searches for his birth parents. Evan changes his name to August Rush at the encouragement of a character named Wizard (played by Robin Williams) who takes young Evan under his wing to exploit his musical gifts.

The story is brilliantly woven together as a symphony of the awakening journey and the sounds and rhythms Evan hears in daily life. Themes include experiencing a deep, heart calling and opening ourselves up to listening, learning and following Divine guidance, Divine frequency, which is always all around us, within us, singing us home, supporting us to remember what is real; encountering self-doubts (ego’s vicious voice) in the form of other characters, recognizing these “other” characters are merely symbols of our original projection of a world that seems to be unfriendly/the absence of love…and how we begin to say “no” to the ego voice in our mind and believe in our Divine worthiness; noticing the difference between Divine and ego frequencies; and how the Tao, Life, the Holy Spirit in us, and in seeming others, is helping us and working things out.
