Satsang Reflections

As a community, our mission is to help people become Self-reliant on their own Inner Wisdom. Rev. David Hemphill is a living demonstration of the fruits of this mission of living from Inner Wisdom.

In case you don’t know David, here’s a little bit about him.

He began his spiritual path in 2012 with his mentor Nyki Dobson. Having signed the constitution of Awakening Together shortly after, he worked as a founding trustee board member and graduated from the first class of the Ministerial Preparation Program (MPP) led by Regina Dawn Akers on May 10, 2015.

Since 2015, David has remained in communal service with Awakening-Together through publishing spiritual writings, participating in the benevolence subcommittee, and occasionally teaching some MPP courses. His primary spiritual practice is surrender, meditation, and inquiry. Although able to follow spiritual discussions use spiritual language (e.g., Spirit, Guidance, True Self), most of his experience discussing and applying spiritual teachings has occurred through the context lenses of business, psychology, trauma, and interpersonal relationship. David’s favorite teachings are those of Byron Katie, Michael Langford, and Ramana Maharshi.

Tao Te Ching, Ch. 17 “Effective & Ineffective Leadership”

Awakening Together’s President-Minister, Jacquelyn Eckert, and Vice President-Minister, Rhoda Makled share from the Tao as they contemplate its principles in order to fully embody them.

The Tao Te Ching (The Way), written by Lao-Tzu (Old Teacher), is a guide to enlightened leadership. While most people believe effective leadership lies in knowledge and power, the Tao teaches it lies in emptiness, stillness, and presence.

The pair are using three books including interpretations by Derek Lin, Wayne Wang, and Stephen Mitchell. And now they are excited to add Regina’s translation to their contemplations of the Tao and you are invited to join them each Sunday.

Rev. Pamela Mann is an Intuitive, Meditative, and Visionary Artist, Ritualist & Ceremonialist
Reiki MT/Shamanic Healer. Pamela was ordained at One Spirit Interfaith Learning Alliance and Seminary located in NYC, NY, Class of 2011 (alongside Rev. Yolanda). Her first year of study had an emphasis on the world’s religions and their cultures and ceremonies. While in seminary, she attended services for each of the world’s religions and still attends as many different services as possible. Pamela’s ministry serves as an outreach of One Spirit in the state of Virginia.

Rev. Yolanda is a trans femme genderqueer actor/singer/songwriter/performance artist & interfaith minister, originally from Muscle Shoals, Alabama- The Hit Recording Capital of the World. Rev. Yolanda has been making music/theater/TV/film/performance art for well over 35 years, winning the NYC MAC Award twice and inducted into both the NY Blues Hall of Fame and The GLBT Hall of Fame.
