Heart Explorations: Embracing the Whole Show ~ 4/18/23

During our time together, we will explore what it takes to live from an open, undefended heart.  Naturally, any true exploration of living from the heart necessarily entails taking a deep and sustained look at what prevents us from keeping our hearts open.  Grounded in the knowledge that the essence of us, our true nature, is the very lovingness within us all, we will explore how to recognize and release egoic energies by cultivating open-hearted awareness practices which support us in directly experiencing our true Self.  By leaning into willingness, steeped in self-honesty, and with a consistent dash of courage, we endeavor to open to whatever life brings, as it brings it, that is, on life’s terms.  In so doing, we trust that everything – absolutely everything – is here for us to use for healing, for purification, and for learning to live from the heart.  We look forward to supporting each other in our individual explorations of how we truly embrace the entirety of this show we call life.

Retreat Description

Peace Pilgrim once said, “It took the living quite a while to catch up with the believing, but of course it can, and now if I believe something, I live it.”

Nisargadatta Maharaj said, “Intellectually, you have understood, but you have to be one with it; you have to identify with what you have understood.”

At this retreat, you will learn to live from the spiritual knowledge that you believe and trust. You will look at what you value, assess if your values are aligned with your spiritual desire, and then learn how to bring your values and spiritual desire together into one strong foundation that you actually live, speak and act from.

Retreat Schedule

The retreat will begin on Monday at 9am and end by 3pm on Friday.

Retreat Fee: $375
$50 non-refundable deposit

Connie Poole interviewed Sarah St. Claire.

Introducing this Month’s Movie: “To The Wonder”

Join us for our next Movie Watcher’s Group which will be facilitated by Rev. Jacquelyn Eckert on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at 8 pm ET/6 pm MT.

To the Wonder is a mystical meditation on the many manifestations of yearning and love. Like the wind that blows across the plains as the main characters engage in a playful chase, the Spirit of God teases us and invites us to follow. “Teach us where to seek you,” says another character in the film, Father Quintana, echoing the call of spiritual people through the ages. The response is equally universal: Everywhere you turn you see the face of God.

There is within all human beings a deep yearning for transcendental meaning and a connection with the Source of Life. As the Nicaraguan poet Ernesto Cardenal put it: “We have always wanted something beyond what we wanted.” This desire is characterized by a restlessness in our souls. We desperately want to break out of the prisons of separateness that our egos construct for us. This film seems to suggest that our yearning draws out the mystic inside of us, reminding us of our need for unity.

To the Wonder delves deeply into the different kinds of thirst or desire or yearning which give our lives texture, substance, and meaning. Within many religious traditions, these qualities have been seen as problematic. In watching and discussing this film, we will have an opportunity to contemplate whether all desire is reflective of True Desire, which seems to be the message of the film maker.
