Gentle Healing Year 1 Tip For Lesson 297

December 5, 2020

What is the Real World?

Our special theme says, “The Holy Spirit has no need of time when it has served His purpose. Now He waits but that one instant more for God to take His final step, and time has disappeared, taking perception with it as it goes, and leaving but the truth to be itself. That instant is our goal, …”

That instant is our goal. That is why we are on the spiritual path. That is why we do the practices that are part of Gentle Healing. Truth is the goal that lives in our hearts.

Today, take some unhurried time to review what you have written this week regarding your selected perception. As you read, notice your desire to follow the guidance that has come through your writing. Focus your attention on that desire. Through loving attention, it will expand. Sit in awareness and quietly be with your desire to follow guidance across the bridge to truth realization.

Forgiveness is the only gift I give.

Our lesson says, “Forgiveness is the only gift I give, because it is the only gift I want. And everything I give I give myself. This is salvation’s simple formula.”

Today is a day of realizing how deep our desire is to let spiritual intuition guide “the way I live” as “I accept the Atonement for myself.”

What is the Atonement? Atonement means “reparation for a wrong,” with reparation meaning, “the action of repairing something.”

In this case, wrong perception is what needs to be repaired. Wrong perception is the block to the real world and the block to truth. We accept the Atonement for ourselves by doing our part to heal wrong perceptions and by allowing the miracle to do its part to bring healing to completion.

If you have 30 minutes for meditation today, I recommend this meditation:

Gentle Healing 2 ~ Day 271 – NTI Revelation 3

December 5, 2020

Like yesterday’s reading, today’s reading encourages us to see purification through to its completion regardless of how difficult it gets during the process. It says:

I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. Keep your eyes fixed on the door as you go through your final temptations. Remember that no one can keep you from walking through that door but you.

The reading points out that as long as you believe your conditioning, the “world is your shepherd.” That means that you are merely reactive, in the same way sheep fearfully react to a shepherd who shouts and swings his staff. You are herded about by your thoughts, perceptions and emotions. You may think you are independent, but you are like a dumb robot that performs according to programming without choice.

The reading also says:

But when you have left these beliefs behind as tiny wisps of air that are not noticed, you shall see the world differently. It shall not be your shepherd. It shall be your banquet table. And at this table, you shall feast daily, joyously with me.

Consider these two poems, one by St. Francis of Assisi and one by the Sufi saint, Rabia:

Wring Out My Clothes
By St. Francis

Such love
does the sky now pour,
that whenever I stand in a field,
I have to wring out the light
when I get home.

This Choir
By Rabia

So amazing this choir of
socks, shoes, shirt, skirt, undergarments,
earth, sky,
suns, and moons.
No wonder I too, now
sing all day.

Consider carefully what you really want; to be a slave to conditioning, or to experience the world with love and joy, like Francis and Rabia did.

Do you want to be one of the few who persevere?

Thoughts of Awakening # 271

The “I” of knowledge
does not see others.
In this way, there is no “I”.
There is only existence
and the heart of existence
beating as one.

When one hears the heart of existence,
one is in tune with I.

When one sees self and others,
one has lost awareness of truth.

~From our Holy Spirit

Introducing This Month’s Movie: The Man Who Knew Infinity

December 4, 2020

A heartening drama about a slow-blooming friendship between two brilliant mathematicians, The Man Who Knew Infinity is a 2015 British biographical drama film about the Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, who shows an immense fascination with mathematics, even though he has no formal training in the subject.

He fills notebooks with equations and formulas and explains to his wife that there are beautiful patterns in everything and mathematics is like painting without colors.

It is very edifying to witness the friendship that slowly blooms between two mathematicians: Hardy, played by Jeremy Irons, is a pragmatist and atheist, and Ramanujan, played by Dev Patel, is a Hindu believer who claims that every math equation expresses a “thought of God.”

Dev Patel, who was so marvelous in Slumdog Millionaire, effectively depicts Ramanujan’s Hindu zeal, his passion for mathematics, and his reverence for its beauty. In another richly detailed and nuanced performance, Jeremy Irons reveals the admirable efforts of a cerebral scholar who finds the courage to stand up for the mind-blowing work of his friend in the face of steep opposition and racial prejudice. Both men would no doubt agree with Henry David Thoreau who said: “The language of friendship is not words but meanings.”

Join us for a discussion of this movie on December 27th at 8 pm ET/6 pm MT facilitated by Ron Raitz.

You can find this movie on YouTube, Vudu, iTunes and Amazon Prime.

Gentle Healing Year 1 Tip For Lesson 296

December 4, 2020

What is the Real World?

Our special theme speaks of the real world as a world that “arises from a mind at peace within itself.” It says the “real world signifies the end of time, for its perception makes time purposeless.” Then it goes on to say, “The Holy Spirit has no need of time when it has served His purpose. Now He waits but that one instant more for God to take His final step.”

In our last special theme, we learned that spiritual intuition is the bridge from our false self to our true Self; we need to surrender to spiritual intuition for as long as the false self continues.

Since the mind is good at lying to us, and we could be fooled into thinking we’ve transcended the false self when we haven’t, our current special theme gives us another clue to pay attention to.

When we perceive the real world, with “no cries of pain and sorrow heard—when “No danger lurks in anything”—we have reached the end of the bridge, and spiritual intuition is no longer needed. It’s purpose has been fulfilled. God will take the next step to transport us from the end of the bridge to truth realization. Until then, spiritual intuition is needed to guide us.

It’s helpful to have this clarity, because it keeps us from fooling ourselves. As long as we have any fearful perceptions, spiritual intuition is needed.

The Holy Spirit speaks through me today.

Today’s lesson says, “We teach today what we would learn, and that alone.”

Over the last two days, you have discovered something that is helpful for you to learn. When you have fully learned something, a change occurs. Until a change occurs that signifies the learning is complete, you are still learning.

Teaching is a way of learning. However, there are many ways to teach. You can take time in the Sanctuary, weekly or just once (if there is an open timeslot) to teach what you need to learn. However, NTI Luke, Chapter 9 says, “I may have you teach without a single spoken word.”

Let’s allow spiritual intuition to guide us regarding how we are to “teach” in order to learn what’s most helpful for us to learn now. Let’s use Adyashanti’s method of writing to discover the best way for us to teach what we are learning regarding the selected perception we are looking at this week.

1 – Write or type this question: What’s the best way for me to teach to learn _______________?
(Fill in the blank with what you need to learn now.)

Note: You may also do this by speaking into a recorder.

2- Write about “teaching to learn” as if you are teaching someone else everything you know about that. You can use resources like NTI Luke, Chapter 9, to help you gather your thoughts about this topic.

Follow Adyashanti’s advice by writing all the way to the edge of what you know about this topic, and then wait for something else that you know is true. When that next true word, phrase or sentence comes, write it down. Stay with this process until you come to a conclusion that feels like guidance for you.

Note: Be sure to write without a limited view about what “teach” might mean.

If you have 30 minutes for meditation, I recommend this meditation today:

Gentle Healing 2 ~ Day 270 – NTI Revelation 2

December 4, 2020

Today’s reading encourages us to disregard the ego voice in the mind and complete the purification process. The reading is thorough and clear. We all do well to read carefully, and then follow the advice given in today’s reading.

First, it advises us about how to be with  the ego voice in order to let go of it. We are advised:

  • To see it as confusion.
  • Not to hate it or fight it.
  • Not to be afraid of noticing it or hearing it.
  • To look right at it, and then disregard it.

Awareness is being (is’ing), so it be’s with  whatever is present. Awareness lets go of ego by being with it without believing it.

Next, the reading advises us to go through the darkest and toughest experiences of purification. You can only complete the purification process by going all the way through it. To stop and revert to your conditioning, because purification has become difficult and you are more comfortable with your conditioning, is not to purify.

Let’s review St. Clare’s quote from Day 269 again:

Never forget that the way which leads to heaven is narrow; that the gate leading to life is narrow and low; that there are but few who find it and enter by it; and if there be some who go in and tread the narrow path for some time, there are but very few who persevere therein.

You can be one of the very few who persevere. You just have to want truth realization more than anything else, including more than feeling better sooner.

Here’s a quote from St. Benedict that is also worth considering today:

Don’t be addicted to your own self-image or to anything else that promises cheap fulfillment or an easy escape from problems.

Thoughts of Awakening # 270

The “I” of knowledge
is the “I” of all,
so it listens to all things
through stillness.

One cannot hear in noise.
Noise and chatter
are obstacles to hearing.

One can only hear I
in stillness.
In stillness,
I speaks clearly.

Join us at 1:30 pm ET/ 11:30 am MT for The Freedom Practice Sangha

Following the recent Awakening Together online retreats it has become clear that many feel called to dive into intensive follow-up work. While the practice of unearthing and looking directly at our individual beliefs is primarily solitary in nature, we all recognize that the sharing of that work with others who are undergoing the same process can be enormously beneficial and supportive. This will be a time of sharing our inquiries, insights and challenges, listening to others, or just knowing that we are in community as we find that undefended place within ourselves that longs to be free. If you feel called to dive deeper into this work, please join us.  All are warmly welcome.

Join us at 6:00 pm ET/ 4:00 pm MT for Something Genuine with Rev. Jacquelyn Eckert

Rev. Jacquelyn Eckert facilitates this program, in which Awakening Together members and friends join together to watch and discuss TED talks that reveal the Truth of ourselves and our universe based on the actual experience of ordinary people. Their insights are genuine—not based upon theory or dogma—and give us a “man on the street” perspective on what we are coming to learn through Awakening Together.

Regina Dawn Akers OutsideJoin us at 7:00 pm ET/ 5:00 pm MT for The Guiding Light with Rev. Regina Dawn Akers

Regina Dawn Akers reads selections from the book Perfect Brilliant Stillness by David Carse. The purpose of this inspired book study is to learn to stop focusing on words and concepts. Look where the pointers point! Be still and realize Perfect Brilliant Stillness just as it is. Join Regina as she dives deep into this enlightened book study which isn’t a book study at all!

Join us at 8:00 pm ET/ 6:00 pm MT for Quarterly Member Meeting

  • Jacquelyn Eckert will present the 3rd quarter financial reports.
  • Shiryl Kaplan will be ordained as an Awakening Together Minister. Rev. Regina Dawn Akers will be the guest speaker for Shiryl’s ordination.

Gentle Healing Year 1 Tip For Lesson 295

December 3, 2020

The Holy Spirit looks through me today.

Today’s lesson says, “Christ asks that He may use my eyes today, and thus redeem the world.”

Earlier in Gentle Healing, we studied The Code. We learned that the thoughts we believe make the world as it is. This is why forgiveness is so important. By releasing our belief in untrue thoughts, which are received into our minds through The Code, and by abiding as our peaceful unaffected Self, we send peace and wisdom into the world instead of fear and attack.

With this in mind, let’s make forgiving the untrue and realizing truth our top priorities. With these as priorities, we give a gift to the world and ourselves.

If you have 30 minutes for meditation today, I recommend this meditation:

Gentle Healing 2 ~ Day 269 – NTI Revelation 1

December 3, 2020

NTI Revelation 1 is one of my favorite readings in NTI. It provides simple clarity to help us avoid common pitfalls on the spiritual path. If we remember its wisdom, we can walk the “narrow path” to enlightenment without detours or delays.

For example, consider how many people throughout history have idolized Buddha and Jesus, or how many people idolize Mooji or A Course in Miracles  today.

Today’s reading says:

Do not idolize anything within the world or any symbol that is sent to lead you from the world. Hold to them as they are useful, but let them go when their usefulness has past. You are to keep moving by letting go  until you find yourself with nothing left to hold onto.

Idolizing any figure, scripture or theology is a delay on the spiritual path. Identifying with the idea that you are a spiritual person is another delay. Using the Law of Attraction to get happiness in the world is a detour from the spiritual path.  Believing that health is better than sickness, riches are better than poverty or that poverty is better than riches are also detours.

Pay attention to what St. Clare of Assisi said:

Never forget that the way which leads to heaven is narrow; that the gate leading to life is narrow and low; that there are but few who find it and enter by it; and if there be some who go in and tread the narrow path for some time, there are but very few who persevere therein.

Since today’s reading provides guidance about how to walk the narrow path without delays or detours, I recommend taking notes as you read.

Thoughts of Awakening # 269

The Self is all.
All is the Self.
When it appears differently
one is not seeing
through the “I” of knowledge.
One is seeing
through the “I” of ignorance.

Ignorance does not know.
Do not believe its sight.
Surrender to the “I” of knowledge,
and be shown.
