Laura will be facilitating this month’s movie discussion group on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at 8 pm ET/6 pm MT.

The Adam Project is a 2022 American science fiction action comedy starring Ryan Reynolds and Jennifer Garner. Ryan plays Adam Reed, a fighter pilot from the future who uses technology from his world to go back in time and meet his younger self. His mission is to save his wife, Laura. Maya Sorian, the leader of the dystopian world wants total dominion over the time machine technology and wants Laura killed because she knows too much.

The younger Adam helps the older Adam and the adventure begins as they attempt to change the future by destroying the time machine. Along the way, both Adams meet with their father and old resentments surface that eventually lead down the path to forgiveness.

This film was chosen because it explores many awakening subjects such as forgiveness, seeing things differently, the magnetic attraction of ego, Divine Love, correcting error, how love finds itself (the Divine Field), the concept of time, the suffering involved with the desire to be right and the desire for control, and much more, all within a fun story.

Join us Sunday, February 12, 2023, from 8-9 pm ET/6-7 pm MT for the next installment of the musical Awakening Together program, Sounds of Awakening hosted by Rev. Yolanda Mapes.

Rev. Yolanda’s guest, back for the second time, is Adam B. Shapiro. Adam is a TV/Film actor and also an award-winning singer and cabaret performer. He is best known for the movie The Normal Heart (2014), and TV shows The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017) and Master of None (2015).

Adam won the 2013 MAC Award for Musical Comedy performer of the year for his show “Guide to the Perfect Breakup”. In 2021, he released his debut EP “Let Love In”.

Adam was born in Indianapolis Indiana and attended Ball State University in Muncie IN, and is an experienced stage actor in both English and Yiddish. He was the understudy for Tevye and Lazer Wolf in “Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish” Off-Broadway and has worked extensively with the National Yiddish Theater Folksbiene (despite growing up with no exposure to Yiddish and only beginning to learn it when he was cast by NYTF for the first time).

Rev. Yolanda is a trans femme genderqueer singer songwriter actor and Interfaith Music Minister AND a very grateful member of the member Board of Trustees for Awakening-Together. Rev. Yolanda has been making music/theater/TV/film/performance art for well over 35 years, winning the NYC MAC Award twice and inducted into both the NY Blues Hall of Fame and The GLBT Hall of Fame.

One of Rev. Yolanda’s greatest joys is being an active member of Awakening-Together’s assembly of equals. The personal learning/healing that has occurred in her from the sharing that takes place in this community, is a gift that she is forever grateful for.

Ian McArthur’s program normally takes place on the first Sunday of the month. However, just for the month of February, Qigong will take place on Sunday, February 12, 2023, from 2:30-3:30 pm ET/12:30-1:30 pm MT.

Ian’s program is a live and interactive Qigong session. He leads those who wish to participate in this experiential practice step-by-step. Qigong celebrates the traditional Mind, Body, and Spirit. Qi means life energy, referring to the energy circulating through the body, and Gong means cultivation or work. The two words are combined to describe a practice to cultivate and balance life energy. By following movements (forms) and a simple breathing technique, we encourage more Qi to flow which in turn allows us to feel more peaceful and at One with ourselves.

We are seeking a few more admin volunteers for the Awakening Together Sanctuary. Revs. Shawna Summers and George Maddox have been helping out for the past 4 years and we are so grateful to them. It would be wonderful if another member or friend were able to join the list of volunteer admins to give Shawna and George a break as well as to provide greater flexibility when neither of them can be available.

We humbly ask those of you who are reading this news item to check within for Inner Guidance and see if you are the one to say yes to helping Awakening Together in this most needed way.

If you are a minister looking for a way to fulfill your annual service requirement, be aware that serving as a volunteer admin would meet that requirement.

Rev. Saina Fernandez will gently guide volunteers through basic training. Some of the duties of a volunteer admin are to open and close the Sanctuary, to connect the Awakening Together radio to the Sanctuary, to record programs, to make announcements, and to play music in the Sanctuary when needed. All of these tasks are easy once you get the hang of them!
