Gentle Healing 2 ~ Day 249 -NTI James 3

November 13, 2020

The most important characteristic of awakening is the desire to awaken. Without a strong desire to awaken, one is drawn into the mind’s desires, which means one continues to identify with the mind and remains subject to the mind’s highs, lows, misperception and general agitation.

Today’s reading asks you to be “a conscious-minded teacher of yourself.”

What does NTI recommend that you consciously teach yourself?

It recommends that you consciously teach yourself what you want.

A conscious-minded teacher teaches intentionally and deliberately. The teaching doesn’t happen by accident. You are actively involved in helping yourself realize that awakening (truth) is the only thing you really want.

It is as Michael Langford teaches in Chapter 4 of The Most Direct Means to Eternal Bliss:

70. Thus the key to bringing the ego to an end is the intensity of the desire for freedom.

71. Eagerness for liberation must be equal to the eagerness someone who is being held underwater has for trying to rise to the surface.

72. Reflect on #71 above.

73. Eagerness is another word for the desire for freedom.

74. How great, how intense is the desire of someone being held underwater trying to rise to the surface.

75. He would like to rise to the surface, but he is being held underwater.

76. See how intense his desire is to rise to the surface.

77. Every second his desire to rise to the surface is becoming more and more intense.

78. After one minute, how the intensity of his desire has increased.

79. After two minutes underwater, the desire for oxygen and therefore his desire to rise to the surface, is ten times greater.

80. After three minutes underwater, his desire to rise to the surface is one hundred times greater.

81. After four minutes underwater, his desire to rise to the surface is one thousand times greater.

82. How great, how intense is his desire?

83. That is how intense your desire for liberation must become.

As today’s reading says:

Desire is the foundation from which all else springs forth.
Be true to your true desire, and it shall lead you truly.

As Nisargdatta Maharaj said:

The desire to find the Self will surely be fulfilled, provided you want nothing else. But you must be honest with yourself and really want nothing else. If in the meantime you want many other things and are engaged in their pursuit, your main purpose may be delayed until you grow wiser and cease being torn between contradictory urges.

Today is a good day to ask inner wisdom how you can most effectively teach yourself that awakening is all you truly want.

Thoughts of Awakening # 249

Love is a total experience
without separation.

In Love, there is not one who knows love
and one that is the object of love;
for in one who knows and object
there is separation,
which breaks apart the fullness
of total experience.

Total experience
has no parts broken apart
and not fully known,
as an object cannot be fully known
by its perceiver.

Love is a total experience,
and in total experience
all is known fully.

Join us at 1:30 pm ET/ 11:30 am MT for Freedom Practice Sangha

Following the recent Awakening Together online retreats it has become clear that many feel called to dive into intensive follow-up work. While the practice of unearthing and looking directly at our individual beliefs is primarily solitary in nature, we all recognize that the sharing of that work with others who are undergoing the same process can be enormously beneficial and supportive. This will be a time of sharing our inquiries, insights and challenges, listening to others, or just knowing that we are in community as we find that undefended place within ourselves that longs to be free. This program will be facilitated by Anne Blanchard. She also will be acting as admin since this is the time the Sanctuary Director normally takes a break.

Join us at 6:00 pm ET/ 4:00 pm MT for Something Genuine with Rev. Jacquelyn Eckert

Rev. Jacquelyn Eckert facilitates this program, in which Awakening Together members and friends join together to watch and discuss TED talks that reveal the Truth of ourselves and our universe based on the actual experience of ordinary people. Their insights are genuine—not based upon theory or dogma—and give us a “man on the street” perspective on what we are coming to learn through Awakening Together.

Regina Dawn Akers OutsideJoin us at 7:00 pm ET/ 5:00 pm MT for The Guiding Light with Rev. Regina Dawn Akers

Regina Dawn Akers reads selections from the book Perfect Brilliant Stillness by David Carse. The purpose of this inspired book study is to learn to stop focusing on words and concepts. Look where the pointers point! Be still and realize Perfect Brilliant Stillness just as it is. Join Regina as she dives deep into this enlightened book study which isn’t a book study at all! Gentle Healing Year 1 Tip For Lesson 274

November 12, 2020

What is the Christ?

Speaking of Christ-consciousness, our special theme says, “Your mind is part of His, and His of yours. He is the part in which God’s Answer lies; where all decisions are already made, and dreams are over. He remains untouched by anything the body’s eyes perceive.”

That means that Christ-consciousness is untouched by anything that occurs in the human experience.

The best way to discover that you are Christ-consciousness is to check in with consciousness (awareness) frequently, and notice it is always the same. As the human that you seem to be goes through different experiences today, repeatedly check in with consciousness. Notice its sameness for yourself. Notice its untouchedness.

Also, take the time to notice that this present untouched nature is you. Notice that this present consistent nature is actually more intimately you than anything else you may call you.

Today belongs to love. Let me not fear.

As you go through the day today and different experiences come and go—some the mind may consider favorable and some the mind may consider unfavorable—continue to check in with awareness. Continue to notice your untouchedness.

The end of fear lies in the direct realization that you are untouched by everything that happens in the world.

If you have 30 minutes for meditation, I recommend this meditation today:

Gentle Healing 2 ~ Day 248 -NTI James 2

November 12, 2020

Today’s reading is about your current life situation, whatever it is. Whatever your health is like, whatever your financial situation is like, whatever your daily work is, whatever your personal relationships are, and etcetera—every detail  of your current life is absolutely perfect  for your awakening. There isn’t one single detail about your life that is a mistake. Every bit of it is exactly as it is, because you are ready to awaken, and this is the life that will awaken you.

When we live our daily life with this attitude, we awaken more quickly. If we judge some aspect of our life as “wrong,” and wish it were different than it is, we delay awakening. We misperceive the gift as a burden, so we do not accept the gift, and we do not use the gift for the purpose it was given.

I have come to see myself as still. I am still, and life circumstances are like a movie that plays in me. I enjoy the show, whatever it is. If, for a moment or two, I do not enjoy the show, I return my attention to my Self. When I do, peace returns, and then joy returns, and forgetfulness is forgotten.

When one sees herself as still, one does not see a reason for the movie as it is. It simply is as it is.

If you do not see yourself as still, you believe you are a character in the movie. You feel tossed about by the circumstances of the current scene. This is a misperception about what you are. This misperception is your only problem.

While you are susceptible to misperception, the movie has a reason or purpose. Its purpose is your awakening. Everything that happens in the movie (the world) is to help you see that you are not in the movie. You are still (unaffected), and the movie is in you. Accept the movie (especially your life circumstances) as having this purpose and this purpose only. Use the movie for your awakening, and you will awaken from the dream that you are a character in the movie.

Thoughts of Awakening # 248

That which cannot be understood
can be known.
To be known
it must not be filtered by unknowingness,
which is the mind.

The mind accepts and rejects.
What it rejects,
you choose not to know.

Let go of this acceptance
and rejection mechanism.
Rest without thought,
and discover what is known.

Gentle Healing Year 1 Tip For Lesson 273

November 11, 2020

What is the Christ?

Speaking of Christ-consciousness, our special theme says, “Your mind is part of His, and His of yours. He is the part in which God’s Answer lies; where all decisions are already made, and dreams are over.”

While we were on Lesson 267, we spent the day with a visualization plan. It might have been Lesson 267 as it was written, the visualization plan you wrote earlier in Gentle Healing, or a new visualization plan. This is the plan I was with that day:

“I forget about anything I am not called to by God. I joyously answer all of God’s calls, no matter how big or how small. I am completely surrendered, completely in love, and awakening to truth at the perfect pace, God’s pace.”

My visualization plan is in the same vein as the excerpt I have quoted from our special theme today. Today’s excerpt and my vision point to the easy path, the path of being completely surrendered in trust to spiritual intuition.

From our human perspective, awakening is not complete. However, from the perspective of Christ-consciousness, it is complete. In fact, from the perspective of consciousness, non-awakeness has never happened.

Realizing the perspective of consciousness, a wise human relaxes into the current experience. Relaxing necessarily includes tuning into and following spiritual intuition, since the wrong mind is agitation.

From a human point-of-view, what we know about everything is extremely limited. The wise human becomes comfortable with not knowing and lives in the mystery in joy by following intuition in the moment. The wrong mind, which thrives on agitation, worries, tries to figure things out and tries to control everything toward an outcome that is decided upon in the mind.

If we see Christ-consciousness as our truth and the human as a temporary experience, we relax and enjoy the ride. If we see humanness as our reality, we tend to struggle against the unknown and undesired.

The stillness of the peace of God is mine.

As today’s lesson says, “Perhaps we are now ready for a day of undisturbed tranquility.”

Are you ready to trust that consciousness is your reality? If so, you can relax, and watch the human dream from the stillness of reality.

The lesson also says, “If this is not yet feasible, we are content and even more than satisfied to learn how such a day can be achieved. If we give way to disturbance, let us learn how to dismiss it and return to peace.”

It is helpful to pause whenever disturbance arises. Notice that you are aware. Notice awareness is always present, regardless of the current human experience. Happy or sad, at peace or agitated, healthy or sick, in love or lonely—awareness is always present as you.

If you have 30 minutes for meditation, I recommend this meditation today:

Gentle Healing 2 ~ Day 247 -NTI James 1

November 11, 2020

I love NTI James 1. There are several statements in this chapter that I remembered vigorously (with active mental strength) as I went through my awakening process. These statements helped when I felt tired, vulnerable, uncertain or afraid.

Here are the sentences and phrases that came up in my mind repeatedly for several years exactly when I needed them the most:

Trust in all things.

Whenever I noticed my mind spinning with a story of fear, I would whisper to it and say, “Trust in all things.” Now, trusting all things has replaced fear as a habit. I still do not know what will happen in the future, but I trust it, whatever it is. Therefore, I am happy and at peace.

Trust the healing process.

Sometimes the healing process feels extreme. Situations that arise seem really difficult. Emotions are strong. The mind’s stories are anything but helpful. Whenever this occurred, I remembered that everything is for my healing, and I chose to trust the healing process. That helped me to face everything with healing as my only purpose.

Trust your own mind; it will rest.

Sometimes the mind spins and spins and spins with a story, and it seems like it will never stop. When this happened to me, I remembered, “Trust your own mind; it will rest.” I visualized it as an old fashioned wind-up toy that was currently all wound up, and I knew that if I didn’t wind it up again by giving it my believing attention, it would eventually wind down and stop. I trusted that, and I waited in trust for the chatter to die down on its own.

Listen within, with true desire as your focus.

I knew that if I went within with any goal other than my spiritual aspiration as my focus, ego would advise me. It was not beneficial to go within while wanting people to respect me, while wanting my daughter to be nice to me, while wanting more money, and etcetera. Before going within to seek guidance, I always came into contact with my desire for awakening first. I made sure that was the only thing  I wanted. With awakening as my only purpose, I asked for guidance, and I knew what I received was from inner wisdom and could be trusted as such.

Use all things to practice the true desire of the Heart.

For several years, every situation from simplistic to complicated had one purpose for me; its purpose was my awakening. I felt like I was under the surface of the ocean, and my only goal was to get to the top where I could live in the fresh air. Now, I feel like I live life in the fresh air. I breathe easily and naturally. Life is joyous. However, occasionally I slip, briefly, under the water again. Hence, my purpose now is stabilization. I still use all things to practice the true desire of the Heart, but my spiritual aspiration has been updated. Instead of awakening, my current spiritual aspiration is to be awake now. For me, all situations are an opportunity to be awake now. For you, all situations are an opportunity to practice your current spiritual aspiration. That’s all anything is for.

To listen, but not to practice, is to be like a man who looks in the mirror, but then goes away and forgets what he saw.

Like many of you, I used to receive incredible guidance as I wrote with inner wisdom during contemplation, but then I would walk away from my notebook, forget about the guidance and live my day from the mind and from my conditioning. This sentence from NTI James 1 reminded me to stay with the guidance that I received. Keep that mirror with me, and look at it throughout the day. By continually looking in the mirror—by reviewing guidance and actively practicing it—I knew I would come to know my Self.

Thoughts of Awakening # 247

Steady as the ocean’s depths,
peaceful, serene;
Among all seeming changes,
swayed not at all.
This is the mark
of the Self.

Focus yourself on depth.
It is unchanging, even now.
Don’t try to make it
at the level of surface
where changes can be swift and dramatic.

Dive to find it.
Sink.
Settle into it.
It is already and always there.

Having reached a place of total peace, love and joy, Helen has dedicated her life to helping others wake up too. The Truth is here and now and accessible to all. Helen will offer her teachings in this bi-weekly Satsang to help you Realize and BE the Self you already are.

Gentle Healing Year 1 Tip For Lesson 272

November 10, 2020

What is the Christ?

Our special theme says, “Christ is the link that keeps you one with God, and guarantees that separation is no more than an illusion of despair, for hope forever will abide in Him.”

This sentence is an invitation for us to become clear on the difference between what is true and what is not true.

Let’s look at the definitions of true, or real, and not true, or illusion.

Yesterday we learned about consciousness, which is the realm of creation and the ability for creation. Consciousness is the direct creation of source. Therefore it is an extension of source and the same as source.

“True” and “real” point to that, to the essence of consciousness and source, which is changeless and eternal.

Temporary appearances are made of consciousness. They are an extension of consciousness just as consciousness is an extension of source. Yet on the surface, they appear to be something other than consciousness. They appear to be thousands upon thousands, actually billions of different names and forms. The temporary things they appear to be are “not true.” They are “illusion,” because each of these things is actually more than it appears to be. Each thing is not its temporary appearance, but the eternal essence of its source.

To become clear on what is true and what is illusion, we will continue to focus on awareness in ourselves and on life in the living things that we encounter throughout the day.

How can illusions satisfy God’s Son?

Today’s lesson asks, “Can dreams content me? Can illusions bring me happiness? What but Your memory can satisfy Your Son?”

Temporary appearances occupy the mind. Temporary appearances give the mind something to think about. Since things are always coming and going, shifting and changing, the mind remains very occupied. This is life to the mind.

However, we are not the mind, and what is life to the mind is actually agitation or suffering for us. It’s like keeping our attention with the restless waves on a stormy sea, fearing what will happen to the wave, while ignoring the changeless nature of the sea at its depths. Focusing on the surface is suffering. Realizing and abiding as the depth is peace.

The practice we have already committed to today is also the practice that will bring us to realize peace. It is the practice of focusing on the depth instead of the surface. We will focus on awareness in ourselves, and we will focus on life in each living thing that we encounter today. It doesn’t matter if the people we encounter seem happy, angry, or afraid. The life in each one is the same. Life-awareness is the changeless depth of our source.

If you have 30 minutes for meditation, I recommend this meditation today:
